One of our School Improvement Goals at Wilkins is to improve the use of technology by staff and students.
What technology do we have at Wilkins?
- Every teacher has an updated computer and computers for student use.
- All of the computers have access to the Internet.
- We have a Mobile Computer Cart with 30 laptopps.
- Keyboard Wizards and AlphaSmarts for typing.
- We have monitors, hooked to the computer, in all classrooms. This allows whole-group teaching with just one computer.
- Various software.
How do we use the technology we have here at Wilkins?
- Teachers and students use the Electronic Card Catalog to search for books.
- Teachers use e-mail to correspond with other staff members and parents.
- Teachers use the Internet in many ways. Here are some examples: searching, finding class activities, taking virtual field trips, ordering multimedia materials from Grant Wood.
- Students use the Internet for research, whole and small group activities and reading.
- Teachers and students use computers in many ways. Some of these include: word processing, making charts and graphs, designing multimedia presentations.
- The Type to Learn program is used in 4th grade for typing instruction.
- The mobile cart is used with small and large groups.
How we get the the technology?
- Our technology purchases are funded in four ways: Make-it-Happen dollars, District money from the State, our VERY generous PTO, and donations.
- Technology decisions are made by the Technology Committee. This committee consists of the following staff members: Tiffany Miller, Tammy Burns, Jeff Schneekloth, and Marcia Grassfield.
