This will enable teachers to develop appropriate written materials for their classrooms that can be easily printed, stored, and edited in a variety of ways.

Develop worksheets and tasks

Develop, maintain and save documents

 

Verification:  Produce a Word document with clip-art and a table inserted.

 

 

 

E-mail Competencies

Verification:  Send and receive an e-mail with an attachment to a group mailing list.

 

 

 

Mac or Windows Competencies

This will enable teachers to use the features of their operating system in a way that helps to store their work in a variety of ways in order to protect their work and make it easy to access in the future.

Rearrange the desktop and work with several files at once

Move and manipulate files between alternate storage devices

Find file locations and dates

 

Verification:  Open a program, select a file from the hard drive, make changes, and save it to the server.

Netscape Competencies

Connect with other professionals in the field

Develop a personal list of appropriate sites

Search for information by topic, concept, etc.

Print items of value that can be used in the classroom

 

Verification:  Demonstrate opening a web site, finding information in the site, and saving that site as a bookmark in a folder.

 

Spreadsheet Competencies

Rationale

 

___ 1.  Enter information into a spreadsheet document

___ 2.  Change size of columns and rows

___ 3.  Copy information from one cell to another

___ 4.  Add rows and columns

___ 5.  Create ordinal numbers in a column

___ 6.  Add up a column/row of cells

             the spreadsheet

This will enable teachers to keep track of basic information in a format that can be manipulated according to the needs of the situation.

 

Teachers will be able to:

Record a variety of student information

Compile statistical information and be able to manipulate that information

Keep track of student project results

 

Verification: Create an Excel spreadsheet containing information in rows and columns, with at least one calculation cell.

 

 

It is an expectation that new staff in the district will complete the competencies by the end of their first year of employment.
